A Trip To Jamaica South Coast

Broomfield great house: mandeville Manchester

Bloomfield Great House is a 200-year-old Georgian-style coffee plantation main house built many years before the town of Mandeville was formed in 1838. It was renovated in 1997 by a Jamaican family and an Australian son-in-law, and now houses a fine dining restaurant offering a spectacular view of Mandeville, and the occasional art exhibition and live music concert. Delight in Bloomfield's scrumptious international and Jamaican cuisine ... linger a while over a cold draught Red Stripe beer, or choose from a good selection of wines ... all the while enjoying the cool breezes on the veranda or the open-air deck of the bar. It's all well worth a visit.

BAMBOO AVENUE

For nature lovers travelling along the south coast road between Lacovia and Middle Quarters, passing through this two-mile archway of bamboo is a breathtaking and serendipitous experience. Bamboo Avenue, also called "Holland Bamboo" cuts through the former Holland Sugar Estate, providing a beautifully arched shaded arrangement of bamboo on both banks. The purpose of the grove, which dates back to the mid-1700s, was to provide shade for plantation slaves and owners from the estate en route to the town of Lacovia. In the 18th century, Lacovia alternated with Black River as the capital of the parish of St. Elizabeth.

LOVERS LEAP

Located east of Treasure Beach, Lovers Leap is a sheer 1700-foot cliff overhanging the sea. It was here that two slave lovers leaped to their deaths rather than be separated.
